If you do not re-enter the password on the settings form, it will be blanked out when you make an unrelated settings change.

Converted the password field to password_confirm based on information found in an issue (indicated that password_confirm was more intended for register / edits, and password more for login).

That didn't result in anything helpful, and it looks like the issue isn't specific to uc_payflowpro, so I opened this issue: http://drupal.org/node/486544

Will come back to this after the FAPI issue has been resolved.

Interesting. Good to know it's in the queue, but a bit distressing that this could be a drupal-level issue.
