I have a relatively large menu of items, created from a Taxonomy. The taxonomy represents the 'categories', and then many page nodes are added manually to the bottom-level categories. (Under Menu Settings, the parent item is selected from the taxonomy menu, and under Vocabularies, the same taxonomy term is selected) It ends up looking like this:
category 1
- subcategory 1
- - subsubcategory 1
- - - node 1
- - - node 2
- - - node 3
- - subsubcategory 2
- - subsubcategory 3
- subcategory 2
- subcategory 3
category 2
category 3
While trying to troubleshoot the loading of the menu, changing certain settings in the configuration causes the manually added nodes to fall off the menu (Each node's Menu Settings are changed back to default [parent item = primary links]) and they all have to be re-connected manually.
Why aren't these menu settings of the nodes retained? Are they not considered a part of the taxonomy menu, since they were added manually? Am I not setting this up right?
TIA

sdudenhofer commentedCan you show how you are trying to connect your manually added nodes to the menu?

When adding/editing a node, I am just selecting the parent term in both the menu dropdown (to add it to the menu) and in the taxonomy dropdown (titled "Dotcom & OLB")(to classify it in the taxonomy).

indytechcook commentedSome edit to the configuration require that the menu be rebuilt (deleted then re-added) in order to display correcty. The setting include: Item for Vocabulary, Menu and Menu Path Type.
You only need to add it to the taxonomy term and not the menu. If you have option "Display Number of Nodes" selected then it edits the name of the menu item for that term. If you have "Display Number of Nodes" and "Display Descendants" selected, then it edits the name of the term's menu and all of the parent menus.
Taxonomy Menu only tracks the menu items it created from the vocabulary terms. It sounds like you are trying to override what where the menu link points to. Taxonomy Menu isn't aware of that.
What is your intended goal?

Does this mean that ultimately my taxonomy menu can only point to taxonomy pages? My goal is to use the taxonomy as a tool to categorize page nodes. I want to be able to drill down through the menu all the way to a page, not just to a taxonomy page that lists a bunch of pages...

budesigns commentedFWIW, I'm seeing menu settings disappear on my nodes sometimes, even outside of the use of Taxonomy Menu (I uninstalled Taxonomy menu shortly after reply #2 so I'm pretty sure it wasn't the culprit in these recent cases).
indytechcook commentedIt sounds like you would like the nodes themselves to be menu items. That is currently not possible in the current version. It has been requested before but it might be a new feature in V3.
indytechcook commentedI'm going to set this as unrelated to taxonomy menu for now. if you think it's related to taxonomy menu then go head and reopen.

jeffschulerIt looks like this feature was at least partly implemented in #1192084: New options with nodes and expand, though it was removed along the way...

anrikun commented+1: add support for manually added menu items.
dstolThere will be no more work on the 6.x-3.x-dev branch for the foreseeable future.

jeffschulerThis feature never made it in via #1192084: New options with nodes and expand.
Fair to move this request to D7?
dubcanada commentedMoved to 2.x dev as this still has not been considered nor has a good reason been given.

hles commentedThe only reason why nodes should be off the menu is to rebuild the taxonomy menu entirely using the corresponding option. If this is not the case, then it is a bug. In order to fix this, it would be useful to know which options were changed in taxonomy menu that cause this bug, cf.
in the first post.
