Automatically create disknodes for all files in specified directory

Description

Would you consider creating a routine that automatically creates a disknode for every file in a specified directory? This would enable admins to ftp entire directory trees and make them available for download in a few steps. The problem is that due to network and server latencies, creating a disknode for each file is extremely time consuming.

Another approach is to allow the import of a text file that associates disk file names with the file description (node "body"). The importation process would verify that the files specified in the text file exist, and automagically create the nodes with file descriptions and links to the disk files.

If there is a way I can perform this task before this feature is coded (or instead), please let me know!

Thank you for a great module.

+1 for that.

I've got a (government) site with an abundance of Legacy PDFs that the pages link directly to.
I'm trying to move them towards having a 'wrapper' node around each document before download, where the meta information and filesize and stuff can be displayed, prior to dumping them unexpectedly into the viewer.

I'm about to eval this module (haven't tried it yet) but this legacy import is a big, useful deal for me.

.dan.
