Thanks for this super module!

When testing with Opera 9.64 it appears that the lightbox cannot be closed when using the alternative layout.

which method are you trying to close it with? When using lightmodal it's not possible to click on the background on either side of the lightbox to close it. However clicking at the top or bottom should work, along with clicking the close button or pressing Esc (or any other of the configured keys under advanced settings).

Only on the very top of the close image, I can close the window. Clicking on top or bottom does not work.

I just tested with Opera 10.0 and the problem has gone.
