ive installed the module, have upload and imagecache enabled, go create image gallery, then create image gallery image, uploaded 5 images and it all worked as it should.
But then I logged out of admin and tried user 3 (who isnt an admin), I go to create content, create image gallery, fill in the fields click save the next page loads up, i get the text - There are no photos in this gallery currently. Upload Some! - go to upload some, click browse select an image to upload click submit files the page refreshes and i get The selected file could not be uploaded.
I did everything the same as I did as admin, uploaded the same pictures, and it didnt work.
Ive set the permissions to create node_gallery_gallery content, create node_gallery_image content for authenticated users.
In status report all image related stuff shows no errors.

Audiowave commentedjust tried 1.0-alpha8, and everything seems to be ok
Comment #2
wilson98 commentedyou need to also give edit node_gallery_image content permission to the authenticated users.
Audiowave commentedI have given edit own node_gallery_image to authenticated users. i still get the same.
Audiowave commentedive done everything the same on 2.0-alpha7 as i did on 1.0-alpha8, but i cant get 2.0 to work.
im using Drupal 6.12, ImageAPI 6.x-1.6 and ImageCache 6.x-2.0-beta9
GD library bundled (2.0.34 compatible)
MySQL database 5.0.77
PHP 5.2.9
PHP memory limit 96M
Comment #5
wilson98 commentedi didn't see other one report the same issue, maybe you need to rebuild your permission table in
admin/content/node-settings
and see if it works.......

Bensbury commentedHi,
Great module.
I've been going through the Galleries and nothing has come close to doing the job yet.
Node-Gallery looks like the business, but I have two things that are causing me to fall short.
I have something a little similar to the above:
I would like my users to be able to upload images to galleries but I don't want them to be able to create galleries or edit them.
It appears I have to give users permissions to the actual gallery, allowing them them to create new galleries.
Also they can't upload unless given edit permissions which also allows them to re-arrange the gallery.
Is there a way to just have users upload to a gallery but not allow them to create/ delete or manage?
Thanks.
Second thing is that photos appear to bypass the moderation module.
I would like users to post to galleries but there is a requirement to moderate photos from unathorised users.
Does node-gallery work with moderation?
Thanks, for any answers to my questions.
I've been hunting down different galleries for about a week now and so far nothing has covered all the requirements.
Node-Gallery looks the best to do the job and if it can just handle the above two issues, it'll be time to rawk.
!---
Okay I found one answer in the issue qeue here:
http://drupal.org/node/474974
And mashed it to work for me.
Any pointers for getting uploads to work with moderation?
I get this warning
I'm happy to give it a go, but I am not a proper coder.

willisjt commentedI'm getting the same error as OP,
The selected file example.jpg could not be uploaded. You could only upload files.I have all of the permissions enabled and authenticated users have a high enough limit.
I get the following error as an admin trying to upload
An HTTP error 0 occurred. /node_gallery/upload/jsI rebuilt permissions and still nothing. Any ideas? I'm really interested in this module and my site isn't live yet (no traffic) so I can try Dev stuff.

feel free to make an account and try it out

dddave commentedError confirmed. ;)
Do you use devel? Googling for the error code brought up this: #278562: devel breaks filefield upload js (HTTP 0 error) as an answer to a similar problem with the core upload module.
willisjt commentedThanks a lot dddave for your help, that does solve the http 0 error however i still get the message (on non admin accounts)
The selected file silhouette.gif could not be uploaded. You could only upload files.I'm focusing on other areas of the site right now because my client is looking to see some results but I will come back to it soon. Thanks again dddave!

karmalo commentedHello,
I got the same problem. I have set up all permissions but ONLY ADMINS can upload pictures. If a user tries to upload then he gets the following error: " You could only upload files"
Please is there any solution?

dddave commentedAre there any watchdog entries? Have you tried the latest .dev? I cannot replicate this problem.

kmontyHas everyone rebuilt there permissions?
Can anyone share their configuration? Permission settings?

dbeall commentedI have been able to upload images as an authenticated user with alpha10, no issues here.

vasheck commentedHi,
I'm wondering if anyone was able to figure out how to set the permissions so that all users get a permission to ONLY upload images to the galleries without being able to edit / delete existing galleries/images. So far I haven't been able to figure it out.
And on top of this I'd like to have a moderation process in place where I could approve uploaded images before they're posted. I've looked into modr8 module and workflow module. Modr8 doesn't seem to be doing what I need and I find workflow hard to use. I couldn't find any documentation/instructions for workflow.
so to summarize my post:
1) how do I set permissions to allow all users to only upload images (no editing, managing or deleting)
2) how do I set up a workflow where images are:
-> a) uploaded
-> b) reviewed & approved (or not)
-> c) published
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

jrosw commentedGetting the same behavior here using alpha 10 (only admins can upload). There is nothing in the log. I have given full permissions to the role I want to be able to upload, including:
node_gallery
administer node gallery
view node gallery
node
create node_gallery_gallery content
create node_gallery_image content
edit own node_gallery_image content
delete own node_gallery_image content
After setting these I rebuilt the permissions. No change. I know the role has proper permissions because going to node/add/node-gallery-image allows me to create said node type.
I have also visited the Node Gallery settings page at admin/settings/node_gallery and noticed that if I edit the default gallery relationship the role I have granted permission to upload is listed so I set pretty high values (3GB total file space, up to 30000 images) and saved just in case those settings needed to be initialized. Still no change.
Also, I believe this to be unrelated (but I'd rather be through) I just uploaded an image as an admin to see if that would help (it didn't) and was getting:
every time I view a gallery or image page. Then, I visited the home page, got:
and now that warning is gone.

streever commentedThis is a real issue--I am experiencing the same errors and have tried the steps above per JROSW.
I also pulled apache errors, which are generated when I try to upload images I think--
[Wed Aug 12 16:12:00 2009] [error] [client 24.61.186.30] Attempt to serve directory: /webs/nhps/http-docs/sites/default/files/imagecache/node-gallery-cover/, referer: http://testing.nhps.net/galleries
Any help?

holsworth commentedI have the same issue, rebuilt permissions. Admin can upload, no one else..
mdnola504 commentedI had the same issue (the attached scrn cap on this issue) and have fixed it but not 100% sure how...
Here's what I did:
1. Disabled/Enabled all Node Gallery Modules (I don't think I had to do this)
2. Rebuilt Permissions as directed
3. Went to the Node Gallery settings page (/admin/settings/node_gallery)
4. On this page I clicked edit for the 'Node Gallery Default' and then clicked 'Next' on the next page
5. For Gallery Directory, I entered 'gallery/%gid'
6. Increased number of upload fields to 10.
7. For all Upload limitation user roles, I entered 8MB (Default max size), 60MB (Default total size) and 50 (Default total file number).
I have a feeling it was the Gallery Directory field that did it for me.
You've probably all tried this already, but just in case this is your problem too. Everything is working for me now after following these steps on the current Alpha 10.
dbeall commentedIt must be permissions. I tried it using wamp D6/node_gallery 6.x-2.0-dev, I am able to create galleries as admin, authenticated and anonymous users without a directory specified in the setup.
The directories that it used and created:
sites/default/files/image_file_name.jpg(s)
sites/default/files/imagecache/node-gallery-cover/image_file_name.jpg(s)
sites/default/files/imagecache/node-gallery-display/image_file_name.jpg(s)
sites/default/files/imagecache/node-gallery-thumbnail/image_file_name.jpg(s)

fresh-off commentedmdnola504's instructions appear to have worked for me. i skipped step #1. will report back if i have any further problems.
kmontyThis might be an good solution to put in the troubleshooting section of the handbook.
dbeall commentedconsider it done..
kmontyI believe this issue will be fixed by the solutions being proposed here #584012: Authenticated users cannot upload files, only root user is able to
Comment #30
wilkenw commentedLike numerous other correspondents, none of my authenticated users could upload images. Both administrators and editors, however, encountered no problem.
In an effort to debug this problem, I intentionally gave authenticated users permission on every module in my application. Voila, they then could upload images. But which permissions were essential? To find out, I started revoking module privileges for authenticated users one-by-one. See (edited) screenshot for details.
dbeall commented@wilkenw.. Just for fun, disable and un-install node_gallery access as it may be conflicting with the other content access modules you are using..
see http://drupal.org/node/544760 ;node gallery handbook FAQ
# Does Node Gallery Access conflict with other Content Access modules?
Answer: Yes, since node_gallery_access implements it's own node_access rules.
boon4376 commentedPost # 24 fixed it for me
3. Went to the Node Gallery settings page (/admin/settings/node_gallery)
4. On this page I clicked edit for the 'Node Gallery Default' and then clicked 'Next' on the next page
5. For Gallery Directory, I entered 'gallery/%gid'
I followed these steps and now it works for everyone.
mlncn commentedDone all this (at least the , still can't upload, alpha 10 or the November 20 dev, when not logged in as user number 1.
The upload "progress" bar never goes away, long after the rest of the page has given up on the whole upload idea.
Actually now having this problem as user 1.
scottsawyerThis problem was really making me mad. I had the exact same problem, checked and double checked permissions, that wasn't it.
Visited node gallery settings, and found that I had not specified a default width and height. Arbitrarily, I choose 1000x1000, and IT WORKED!
Now to make it so that images can only be added to a gallery that are created by the user uploading. Right now, the user can add an image to ANY gallery.
I will post updates. THANKS
Comment #35
miccelito commentedI think that you only have to go to node gallery settings >> list >> edit >> ... click next >> resave
This and that you've set the permissions correctly would make it go
Maybe as well make an extra clear cache
