Comment without approval by role

Is there any way to extend this to allow us to flag which node types can be commented on without approval by role?

For example, I do not want to allow comments to my story nodes without approval. But I do want people to be able to use the forums freely (which rely on the comment module) without needing approval. I just plan to allow that to be flagged for abuse.

If this module could do that, it would really give admins the control they need.
