Suppressing Teasers

I notice that with your module, for nodes that are marked private, no teaser is shown on the /node page. Can I ask you where in the code you are doing this? I'm thinking it's in the 'load' part of hook_node_api, but I cannot figure it out. I have created a module that suppresses teasers, but Drupal still renders a space for them, although it removes all the data from the teaser. I would rather it didn't even render the space, but I have not figured out how to do this.
