AFAIK this module only works in the moment the refereal is sent to the system.
If the user breaks his signup process and approaches the site a second time (directly) then the user is not credited the referal

I would suggest a cookie-based or ip-based referal tracking.

This version of User Referral is not supported anymore. The issue is closed for this reason.
Please upgrade to a supported version and feel free to reopen the issue on the new version if applicable.
