Is anyone aware of a way to set a location to a taxonomy term?

Example: My site has multiple fixed locations, and these locations are set as a taxonomy term. I'd like it so that when people assign a location via taxonomy, it would be connected with this location and plotted on a GMap.

I'm wondering about this too... I have just started looking in to this functionality for my site as well. I want to limit users to selecting from a set list of cities for their content.

I had a programmer develop a patch that connects node A to node B via taxonomy.

A lives inside of B, and multiple As can be stored in a B. When I add A and choose the taxonomy terms (region/country/city), it stores it in B and B has a location.

Confusing enough? I'd offer to add it, but it's tied into a a few other areas and I'd have no idea where to begin.

This should be possible with fields in D7 now, as of 7.x-3.x
