I've been away from Drupal for a while, but I've returned to the fold after discovering that I just don't like any of the other solutions all that much. Some of the others may be more polished, but Drupal's splinters are much more fun.
That said, I'm developing a few new sites, none of which are ready for prime time. One of the sites needs lots of help available for users who are generally anywhere from completely computer-illiterate to marginally web-enabled. My idea was to post a "Help" book, with lots of pages on everything Drupal: editing user accounts, subscribing to newsletters, subscribing to feeds, etc.
I can create all the top-level book pages I want, but nothing I do will let me post a new page as a child of another. I thought the most logical way to do this would be to use the "add child page" link when viewing an existing book page, but there's no way to select the existing page as parent; the only available choice under Parent is "top-level." I've tried disabling a few modules to see if there was a bizarre interaction going on, but nothing has helped. The forums don't seem to have any info regarding exactly this problem (or they're buried so far in the search that I didn't see them). I'm using Drupal 4.6.5.
TIA for any helpful (or even not-so-helpful) suggestions. I'm completely at a loss on this one.

That's not a problem I've
That's not a problem I've come up against - or even heard of - and my site is all books.
Have you tried the bookplus module? It's a simple extension of books that allows for easier control of parents and children.
Haven't tried it yet...
but I'll scurry off and give it a shot. Thanks for the tip!
Problem solved
Works exactly as expected. Another Drupal problem solved.
Having the same child page problem with Drupal 5.1
Hello all,
I can create new top-level books, but there's no option to create a child page. The bookplus module does not appear to be available for Drupal 5.x, so is there anything else I can try?
Cheers!
Daniel
Found the solution - parent must be published
I found that if the book you wish to make the parent isn't published, then you cannot create child pages for it. This is a stumbling block if you're trying to structure a book before publication.
Cheers!
Daniel
thanks!
I was trying to find the "create child page" link as well, so thanks for this discovery :-)
