Newsflash teaser on the front page - pedagogical info for a newbie

Hi!

Drupal newbie here. I can not find a simple, comprehensive description for this so here we go. This is what I would like to accomplish:

To have a blog-alike page, with most recent posts appearing on the top of the same page. Than a module that automatically creates a teaser of that in a block placed on the front page, with "read more" link, adressing to the whole article. (I see no teasers on my front page either, which is supposed to be enabled my the default.

I read about *stories* being a suitable content type for a one-man blog, though being a newbie, I do not understand how to ad content to the same story, on the top of the same page.

Please do not just write "use views", or "use CCK" because that is insufficient for me. (drupal addict since two weeks back)
