1. Check out the Nice Menues module
2. You probably have enabled a block which displays the Primary menues and your theme does it by itself. Check the theme settings and the block page.

Sounds like you are using the Block
If you are using the Block "Primary Menues" you can control the display of the block title at the block page. Look out for the menu block and click the "configure" option behind it. On the next page you can enter a new title or use to avoid any display.
