[I hope I'm doing this properly—this is my first posting, so apologies if I'm not understanding how things are supposed to work.]
I've created a "How-to Video" content type using CCK (6.x-2.3). I'm trying to use the embedded video field type to embed screencasts hosted at blip.tv because I'm finding the quality to be much better than YouTube. When I paste the embed code into an embedded video field and save the node, I end up seeing only a blank white space. Right clicking brings up a message from Flash (current version) saying "Movie not loaded." This happens under both Firefox 3 and Safari 4.
When I paste the same embed code into an ordinary text field using "full HTML" input, the video displays as expected. (I've seen this issue, but don't have any version of AdBlock installed.)
To try to see what was going on, I pasted the same embed code twice, once in a full HTML text field and once in an embedded video field. Viewing the source of the resulting page shows this:
<div class="field field-type-text field-field-embed-code">
<div class="field-items">
<div class="field-item odd">
<p><embed src="http://blip.tv/play/AYGJ+SmYghc" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="960" height="630" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed> </p>
</div>
</div>
</div>
<div class="field field-type-emvideo field-field-embedded-video">
<div class="field-label">Embedded video: </div>
<div class="field-items">
<div class="field-item odd">
<embed src="http://blip.tv/play/" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="960" height="630" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
For some reason, it seems that the ID for the video at Blip.tv (AYGJ+SmYghc) is getting stripped out in the second instance (the embedded video field), where it says simply http://blip.tv/play/. That code does appear in parentheses below the embedded video field on the node edit page, but the link points to my own front page, rather than to Blip.tv. By comparison, when I paste a YouTube embed code into the field, the ID points to YouTube. (The site's in development, so this is all on localhost using MAMP—don't know if that makes any difference.)
I've filed this against the 6.x.1.x-dev version, but the same issue appears when I use the official 6.x-1.2 release. Any idea why this might be happening and how I might be able to fix it?
Thanks very much for any help, and sorry if I'm missing something basic.

hershel commentedWhat is the URL you inputted into the node for the blip.tv video? I have noticed that if it doesn't start with blip.tv, i.e. it starts with mysubdomain.blip.tv then the parser may fail.

benjamin.pauley commentedThanks very much for the reply. I hope I'm understanding your question correctly.
The URL for the blip.tv video that I've placed in the Embedded video field is the embed code generated by blip.tv, (i.e
<embed src="http://blip.tv/play/AYGJ+SmYghc" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="960" height="630" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed>). Does that URL start with blip.tv in the sense you mean?Comment #3
hershel commentedThis is not what you should be inputting. You should just put in the URL that you use to see the video, NOT the embed code. As in http://blip.tv/file/3333

benjamin.pauley commentedOh dear. Thanks very much for this. Feeling rather stupid at the moment...
I guess I was thrown by the fact that a YouTube video worked when entering the "embed code" that YouTube generates, while blip.tv didn't.
I've changed the status to "by design," which I hope is the right designation--I don't see a status setting for "Poster was a bit dense," which I think is probably the right way to describe this one.
Thanks again.

Yes, that is correct.
> "Poster was a bit dense,"
LOL
Nonsense--everyone makes mistakes. Glad it's worked out now. :)
