Most themes on http://drupal.org/project/Themes do not support both left- and right-aligned blocks. Most of the time, the only way to test wether it does or not, is to download and test the theme. It would be great to have an extra field displaying if a theme supports this or not. This could be done in an extra note like:

"Note: this theme requires the PHPTemplate theme engine."

For example:

"Note: this theme doesn't support both left- and right-alligned blocks"

Or:

"Note: this theme does support both left- and right-alligned blocks"

I think it might be better to list the themes regions instead...

with drupal 6 and the support for rtl built in, this may be more relevant. Not sure how it would be carried out. This is more of an infrastructure issue then documentation issue.

I still this this is relevant to the d.o redesign. There are a lot of potential fields about themes we'd like to be able to list and display in a meaningful way, including this (although I think drewish's suggestion is a better one than the original title).

I agree with drewish' suggestion. When this ticket was created there was usually only support for either 2 or 3 columns but times have changed since.
