From what I understand, a privatemsg is currently a target (i.e. some other event triggers a privatemsg, if configured to do so).

On my Drupal 5.x site, I'm interested in seeing a privatemsg generate a notification. For example, a new privatemsg is received, and subsequently I want to ensure the recipient receives an external notification (email/tweet/whatever) that the message was received. Is this function currently available using the messaging framework + notification?

Thanks.

The title was supposed to be "Can a new privatemsg create a notification (email, tweet, etc.)?"

Any ideas?

Hi, believe me we're getting your emails.

I'd suggest two things:

  1. Most work is happening on Drupal 6 now. So you've got a better change for any advanced functionality there.
  2. Look at http://drupal.org/project/notifications_extra (specifically Message Notifications) for was is possible with cascading notifications.

Thanks jmicolis. Not trying to pester, but from all the various modules, it was rather confusing whether this was possible.

Thanks for the feedback. I understand re: Drupal 6, but it is not possible for my production site, so I may need to have the module backported.

Cheers.

Just so you know, there are no plans for any backporting work on this.

I'm setting this to "won't fix" as it's not a priority for this project and not something that any of the maintainers are going to work on. It's not a feature we're going to complete. If you do get a working backport together however please reopen this.

Cheers
