This Handbook page http://drupal.org/node/438370 and this issue comment http://drupal.org/node/422264#comment-1466510 give a suggestion and example on how to use hook_views_pre_render() to alter a view.

It seems like the example from the issue comment, and an explanation something like what's on the Handbook page, could be useful as part of the documentation in Advanced Help in the Views module, presumably the API section (although that pertains mostly to other parts of the API).

If this is done, the Handbook page should also be archived.
