Hi everyone,
I know there are some options available to do this, just not sure how or where, so hopefully someone here can help. I have a white paper I've written, and want to put it on my companies site (running on Drupal) as a PDF. I want search engines like Google to be able to index it so it comes up in search results, but I want any normal user than goes to the page to register before they can download the white paper.
Is there any modules (for Drupal 6) that will allow me to do this? Is it possible to expose content based on IP address, so if a Google IP address hits the site it can show the paper for indexing, but if another IP address lands on the page it will show a brief summary with a link to sign in/register? I understand opening it up to search engines will allow a copy of it out to the world in Google's cache, but I have a feeling most people will not be aware of this and still register to get the white paper.
If anyone has done something similar or knows how this is typically done, please let me know.
Thanks,
David

I don't advise it...
I don't advise it. Matt Cutts says don't ever show Googlebot anything different than a regular user. If you do, you very well may be penalized. Maybe what you could do as a compromise is "do" include the PDF publicly on the page, but simply cause the link to be display: none or something for anonymous users. Note that I don't know if this method could cause Google-wrath too haha so you should check with more sources to be sure its safe.
