Say the primary links menu is ...

- item 1.2
item 2
- item 2.1

When the secondary links source is set to primary menu could the secondary links items (1.1 et al) show on mouse-over rather than having to click the primary links item (1, 2). Guess the vast majority of users set the secondary links menu to source from primary menu.

I'm not sure I understand what you're asking for. Are you wanting automatic drop down menus like those provided by the Nice Menus module?

I've given the feature some thought, and I don't think it's appropriate for this theme. There are circumstances where one page might have sub-pages, but another might not. For this feature, the secondary menu bar would have to be rendered even on the pages that did not have sub-pages.
