It would be nice to be able to choose nodes from other sites for referencing. In could be done by "show tables" and seeng what other sites present in DB.
And it would be great to see nodes in the selection box according to the menu structure.

That would be an interesting addition indeed, but probably best served by an additional contributed field type; it seems like a different kind of animal than what's being done here. In general, it probably should be solved with some kind of URI-based scheme to handle sites elsewhere on the web as well.
