Hi, I've just installed the userpoints dev version of the module because of this issue and got this error for the userpoints_service module which is apparently a part of the whole package.

warning: file_get_contents(sites/all/modules/userpoints/userpoints_service.info) [function.file-get-contents]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/lighttpd/doubleplushuman.com/http/includes/common.inc on line 3512.

I've deleted that module for now as it doesn't seem to be essential.

This is a problem with your hosting. They do not allow socket operations to other sites because of security concerns.
