Hide Terms instead of Vocabularies

Perhaps this would just be useful to me, but filtering in/out an entire vocabulary seems too rough a filter.
It would be very handy if you could select an entire vocabulary or just some terms in it.
Did you think of implementing this feature at some point?

I'll throw my hat in for the term-based-permissions being useful to me as well. I've got a site where I'm using the notifications module to send emails to all users for specific tags, e.g. "Site Announcements" . I'd like to have only certain roles allowed to do this to cut down on email traffic.
if anyone has any other ideas on how to limit term access I'd love to hear them.

UPDATE: There's a linked project that allows per-term permissions:

It's just a fresh dev snapshot, but I gave it a try on a dev copy of my site and it's working splendidly.
