I found drupal_rebuild_theme_registry() at the bottom of template.php. Is this necessary on a production site? Wouldn't it slow things down?

oy... yeah, big oversight on my part. that should have been removed. It has a hugely negative performance impact. Sorry.

I just committed a fix, new release will be up within 5 mins.
