Since upgrading to 6.12, I can't run the database update script. I think the site may have been hacked while it was still 6.11,but I am not sure.
In any case, I have uploaded 6.12, restored the database and everything works except that the modules need new database schema and the update script won't run - it gives:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '<' in /home/bloom/public_html/update.php on line 666
I think the file only has 665 lines in it (if I copy it into excel, 665 is the last line) and it looks fine.
Ideas appreciated, since the site now has error messages on every page.

update.php is from the 6.12 download?
update.php version
yes - I just replaced with a newly downloaded one to be sure.
There are no other issues in the status report. Otherwise everything works...
Same problem
I'm having the exact same problem. Just updated with 6.12 and all worked fine before.
fixed itself
don't know why - left it a week or two and it was working again when I next checked...
