Imagefield_Import batch loads images to nodes giving them each a Title and Body. I made a slight modification to read Title and Body from the IPTC fields "Headline" and "Caption-Abstract", thus I can edit IPTC on my local computer, knowing that I don't have to do it again when I upload them to my website. Also, my image filename is a cryptic filecode, not a descriptive, so, in the absence of a tiny thumbnail, I have no way of remembering which image is which.
Also, Imagefield_Import requires that you type in the taxonomy tags for a group of images. This is a pain, as I already have each image tagged using the IPTC field "Keywords", and that's one more thing I don't want to type in again. (I'm real lazy).
In the grand design of this module, why not have a keywords field attached to each image? (Actually I'd prefer one or more tag fields so I can work with multiple vocabularies, but let's consider the simple thing first.) I guess you could keep a bulk tagging field that you can associate with a group of images, or let that be populated automatically from the folder name... hmmm, instant galleries.
You can see where this is heading: set up the import page so you don't have to type very much. With enough careful forethought you wouldn't have to type anything at all. You could even (BOLDLY) import all the images in your upload folder or (WOW!) import a number of folders with a single click.
