I would like to some how remove the icon that is automatically included when you embedded images, flv etc via filefield.

I would like to LEAVE the icon when the attachments are printed out in a list.

Is this possible? and if so.. how?

You'll need to learn how to theme cck nodes and/or cck fields. There are good step-by-step articles around the web.

Some find this module useful:

It let's you override the default display of your node, and generate output exactly as you'd like from the data.
