I noticed that if I choose United States as my Geocoding location, choose Google Maps (or Google Maps API), and hit configure, it says: "The key in use was automatically provided by GMap." and sure enough, my API key I supplied to the GMap module is there.
But, if I choose another country, say Australia, the page will have a text box asking for the API key instead of automatically using the one I supplied to the GMap module settings, e.g. admin/settings/location/geocoding/us/google uses GMap's key, but admin/settings/location/geocoding/au/google has a text field instead. I can supply and save the API key again, and it works, but I'm thinking that this is a bug, and that all locations should just use the key you gave the GMap module? I could be wrong, and maybe there's a reason for it, but just thought I'd report it in case it's an actual bug and not a feature.

Youdaman commentedDefinitely a bug -- I tested every country available to use Google Maps, and every one had their Google Map key set, except Australia.
Australia is the ONLY country that doesn't automatically grab the key already supplied to the GMap module. Being Australian, I feel somewhat left out ;-) Not a major bug, but something that might confuse fellow Aussies.
