Some users (all?) find that after they have saved their preferred translation in the Control Panel, they later begin to see the site default (for us NKJV) on reference hovers... this may also occur when the CP dropdown reverts to NIV and may be realted to or the same bug as http://drupal.org/node/503512#comment-1747114

I don't know yet how these might be connected.

This does duplicate #503512: Control Panel always says "NIV"... when users expect it to show the choice they saved.
