I am at a hotel, and I cannot see Drupal.org if not through a proxy.
As this already happened with a home IP, I am curious to know why it happens.

killes@www.drop.org commentedWithout the IP in question we have no way in checking this out...
avpadernoThe actual IP assigned to my Mac is 10.71.0.167.
The question was more generic, anyway.
I was able to see Drupal.org, and all in a sudden I was not anymore able. I had the same problem from a home IP (cable modem connection); at that time, I was able to see Drupal.org directly just in some hours of the day, while in other hours I had to use a proxy server.

chx commentedvisit whatsmyip.org . thanks. 10.x.x.x is nonroutable internal ip.
avpadernoNever mind; I am not at the hotel anymore, and it seems that with the actual connection I am using now I don't have anymore problems.
I was just curious to know if Drupal.org uses some automatic IP blocking mechanism that gets activated in some conditions (i.e., the IP was used from a spammer).

bonobo commentedFWIW, I have had this issue periodically as well -- I will be unable to hit d.o or g.d.o from my home internet account. I can, however, hit association.drupal.org -- The problem will last for a few days, and then disappear. I'm currently in the middle of one of those times; I haven't been able to hit d.o from my home account since Monday.
In the past, both killes and nnewton gave me some feedback via email, but on the two other occasions this happened the problem seemed to resolve itself.
Here is a traceroute I did from my home connection --

bonobo commentedOkay -- a little more info here --
The following info is pulled from the same computer -- literally, I'm sitting in the exact same physical location, and connecting to two different wireless access points. One is my neighbor's; the other is mine (and yes, my neighbor knows I am connecting via his access point -- I helped them set it up :) )
This is from my neighbor's wireless connection, which connects to drupal.org --
My IP is 76.105.140.232

damien tournoud commentedThis very first hop is *really* weird. I suggest investigating configuration on your end.
avpadernoI had the problem using different Internet connections, at different locations. The weird thing is that the problem is intermittent; once you can access Drupal.org, once you can access Drupal.org only through a proxy server.
The only thing I noticed is that all times I have the problem I am located in USA; I have never had the problem when I connect to Drupal.org from Italy.
bonobo commentedRE #9 -- agreed, the first hop is very weird, especially considering that nothing on our internal network has changed, and that I have been accessing d.o and g.d.o with no issues (with the exception of the intermittent issues noted in this ticket) for a while. Moreover, d.o and g.d.o are the *only* sites affected -- I can surf the rest of the internet (at least the parts that will have me :) ) with no problems.
In any case, I rebooted the modem that connects out to the internet, and the wireless access point, and the problem went away.
Interestingly, the traceroute is nearly identical, except that it now resolves the last hop:
billfitzgerald$ traceroute -P ICMP drupal.org
traceroute to drupal.org (140.211.166.6), 64 hops max, 60 byte packets

avpadernoI think that this issue should be investigated a little more, otherwise people will keep to open a similar report all times they are not able to access Drupal.org.
Investigating on a specific IP (which is different each times) will not help on resolving the issue.
To me, it seems there are some automatic mechanisms that get enabled for some reasons, and I find interesting that I don't have the problem when connecting from Italy.
Is there anything that checks the user IP, and blocks that IP if it appears to be far from the usual location the user accesses Drupal.org from?
avpadernoComment #14
damien tournoud commented@KiamLaLuno: there is no such thing, as far as I know.
gerhard killesreiter commentedThere is no such mechanism.
I really think that in this case the user's setup is somehow faulty.
avpadernoI am able to connect to drupal.org, but it seems that traceroute is not able to trace back until drupal.org.
From the 20th hop until the last one, the output is always the same.

pasqualleCould it be related to this issue? #275692: IP filter thinks I am a bot
I had that problem many times when I was using a mobile internet modem in England a year ago..
killes@www.drop.org commentedNo, we currently do not use that filter.
gerhard killesreiter commentedwe currently do not block any IPs.
