Home page news module?

Hi, just started using drupal and would like to have my front page display the latest news about the site.
I want it so that I can add a new news story and it will put it at the top of the page and bump the next story down, with a max of 5 stories on the home page and possibly an archive with the older news posts.
What module would i use for this?
Not sure what version drupal i'm using i would assume it is 6 or 7 as i got it recently

That's pretty much how Drupal works. All you need to do is make sure when you create your post to have "Promoted to front page" and "Published" checked in the in the Publishing options section of the edited post.
By the way,m if your new to Drupal, I would only recommend starting with Drupal 6. Drupal 7 is still under development.
