Issue Summary
When I have Simplenews_template enabled i get a whitescreen when I submit a newsletter, the newsletter doens't get sent and when I go to manualCronjob I also get a whitescreen.
When I uninstal the Simplenews_template al works fine. I'm working with the Garland theme so that should not be a problem.

I get this problem when I edit the module files if I make an error (using D6) but if I correct the error the white screen disappears - make sure you havent edited the module files.
I found that problems with tweaking module files can take the whole site down, not just the module.

I tried to update from 5.x-1.2 to 5.x-1.4.
When submitting a newsletter issue, the result is a WSOD and no error message.
I went back to 5.x-1.2 and all is good again.

What if you try applying the patch in #393218: Call to undefined function _simplenews_template_message(), would that work?

Sorry I have not tried it yet. It probably does work.
I am kind of amazed that this patch has not been rolled into a new release of the module. This version is seriously flawed in a dangerous way and has been out for almost 6 months now.
