Just installed the 6.x-1.0 version on an existing Drupal 6.12 site. When I run the Available Updates Report, the entry for civicrm_error indicates "No available releases found".

It takes a bit of time to propagate through the system, you may have just been too quick. It works on my local install. I'll close this, if you still have issues you can re-open.
