SMF 1.1.9 to Drupal 6

TauTau - July 2, 2009 - 12:11

Hi,

I searched around a lot on that topic, and the only answer I could find is:

- convert from SMF to phpBB to Drupal. But you loose all User passwords.

is that really the only answer? Given that the SMF integration module seems to be rather unsupported at the moment, there is no way to go from SMF to drupal?

Passwords

I think you'll have trouble converting users from anything without losing passwords unless they happen to encrypt them in exactly the same way.

You can look at this as an opprotunity. Write up an email that the forums are being upgraded. Tell them their accounts are still there but they will have to use the "request" new password link. Use it as a chance to contact all your users for a legitimate reason and maybe remind folks who haven't logged in for a while. :)

I believe there's also a way to send a one time login link right in the email but I don't know how it's done.

I'm looking for folks to help me out by posting in my Coulee Region forums. You don't need to live in the area; there's plenty of general forums. But please, no Drupal support questions. :)

There's the http://drupal.org/project/one_time_login and http://drupal.org/project/login_one_time modules (talk about confusing module names, I think those have nodeaccess and node_access beat, lol).
