How many Modules do you guys use?

I know it depends on what you do but I would like to have an idea of how many modules you guys are using for your sites.

I'm building my first site using Drupal and starting to fear I'm using too many modules.
I also feel a bit confused by the sheer amount of work and modules one has to install for achieving what I feel is basic functionality and would like to see whether I'm the only one who feels like this.

ps: I need to start therapy.

You will probably get more

You will probably get more useful answer if you say what you are trying to do and what approach (modules) you are using and asking people if that seems like a reasonable approach.

Thanks for your suggestion.

Thanks for your suggestion.

I'm trying to create a website to stream videos and images from third party providers. The website will also have text-based information and blog articles.

So far I'm using Views to achieve a similar layout to the official Googleblog site.
Panels for the layout of the rest of the pages
Image / Image Gallery / SWF Tools for displaying Images (which I don't understand why I need that many modules for 1 thing)
Emfield for allowing third party integration of video and images.

On top of all that I'm using FCK Editor, DHTML Menu and other Administrative modules.

I'm just a bit worried it's all too much and want to get a general sense of how many modules other users use.

I wish displaying images and videos of third parties was part of the core of Drupal. I feel it's what basic sites should be able to do.

This is hard question,

This is hard question, because it is not common in opensource for site builders to know precisely what they want to do to start out.

That is where a Drupal fits.

Ask questions on the forums as you go. Most people are glad to share.

I have been using Druapl several years now, and I still post all the time asking questions.

Currently, I have over 10 sites up on Drupal.

It is an amazing application, because the developers for the most part are very compent and care about the community.

Most of my sites have up to 100 or more modules ebabled. Some have twice that amount.

The Core + CCK + Views + Pathauto + taxonomy mods are important modules.

I don't like WYSIWYG mods for use by users. Mostly, I just use full HTML for my own entries and filtered HTML for authenticated users.

The image tools are a world unto themselves. The IMCE and ImageBrowser are good, but there is too much access into file structure for my comfort.

I just don't like users to see what is in my files, security issues have always been an issue for me in such cases.

The EmField CCK is very good for accessing Media from other sites, which I prefer to do... mainly, because of copyright issues and bandwidth usage.

I prefer to use image uploads and tools that work with it. CCK,etc. Also, the Lightbox2 is good and works with the CCK in most cases.

ECaptha is good for stopping spammers.

I love the Galleria module, because you can now use CCK and put in alternate text when you upload images. The search engines don't see the images so you need alt text to help in the SEO. IMO, of course.l

Again, just post and ask as you go.

100+ modules?? I feel

100+ modules?? I feel relieved now. And how do these sites perform?

Also, with regards to image uploads, how much space does a typical host give you? Only reason I'm trying to stream my pictures from flickr is because of bandwidth. Is it possible to have images in flickr and stream them with galleria and still use alternate text? This was a very good piece of information.

Many thanks!
