Direct upload method question

Description
I looked at the link on the home page of this module for the direct upload method but I didn't really get it. Does it basically mean that we have to upload videos on to you tube to get them up on to our site? And if so, then do we still need to add the upload field to a content type to get a video up? Sorry. It seems weird that I'm confused about this, but I am.
