Rotating banner in Nitobe theme

But I do not like the menu being on the right hand side, and I do not like the drab striped background colors. Can I either edit the look or take the banner code and apply it to another theme?

I'm new at this, but I do have Dreamweaver and limited CSS knowledge. I'm just not sure about the theme layout with the PHP, etc.

yes to both questions.

you can reverse engineer the theme and mimic what it is doing with the header and as far as the rest of the styling is concerened you can alter til your heart is content. I have added the ability to place the sidebar on the left or the right to the newest version of Nitobe. You can also have both sidebars in several configurations (on either side, both on the left, both on the right).

Also, you should always download themes from their project site. Aggregate sites like drupal2u do not always have the most current versions.
