Which of these hosting providers is the FASTEST?

feconroses - July 4, 2009 - 06:49

hey! Im currently hosting my site with godaddy but im planning to change because its too slow for drupal sites (mainly because of the database speed).

I was wondering, which of these hosting providers is the FASTEST for a semi-complex website?

-BlueHost
-ANHosting
-HostGator

Also if you have any experiences with theses hosting providers, i would be grateful if you can share them :)

Thanks in advance!

Federico.

I don't have experience on them (I have a dedicated) though out of those I've heard complaints about BlueHost among people I've talked to in IRC. It's been a looong time since I checked (so at the pace hosts go in and out of favor maybe it's no longer accurate) but I've heard ok things about HostGator. The thing I dislike about them though is their "unlimited" this and that, which is a scam of course (I've personally been cheated by such hosts in the past). Most shared hosts technically oversell at various degrees, but I tend to advise avoiding those that claim unlimited space/bandwidth (which just ain't possible haha). I don't know anything about ANHosting myself.

I do have some friends and clients running Drupal on shared hosts, and the two I've had no problems with are HotDrupal and A Small Orange. The site on HotDrupal is a complex site and is definitely fast, and the A Small Orange one is fast, though I couldn't vouch for it as readily since my friend's site there is very basic.

I'd suggest searching each potential host's name on drupal.org, google, and at webhostingtalk.com to get the best feedback.

*Edit: I just noticed BlueHost says unlimited this and that too (and for practically free)... so I'd avoid them based on that in addition to the complaints I've heard. If your website is important to you, pay a bit more and get quality hosting.

finding a web host

I have an ANHosting account and have been pleased with the performance. I haven't needed to contact customer service so I don't have any first-hand experience, but I haven't heard any complaints either. There's also a first 3-month free coupon floating around (giyf).

That said, my general advice when selecting a web hosting is to stay clear of companies offering unlimited everything at extremely low prices.

I like ANHosting

I am using it for several sites, having left Dreamhost. I see a lot of complaints about Bluehost. Some folks seem to like Hostgator.

Ultimately, you'll get what you pay for. ANHosting is good, SHARED, hosting, meaning that your bandwidth will drag down if you get popular. If so, or if you are about to get digged or something, move then.

Have fun and play nice now.

All those 3 sites runs very fast. But as a natural of shared web hosting, once your site get popular, you might meet their constraint on CPU, memory, etc. An VPS hosting will be your best choice if your traffic now is over 200 Unique IP per day..

If you are beginner, I would like recommend to go with Bluehost, which works really very well for Drupal, it's fast and CHEAP.

Thank you all for the replies. I really appreciate it :)

Seanray what VPS hosting providers do you know that can run drupal sites very fast and smoothly?

I am using midPhase VPS

seanray - July 5, 2009 - 07:39

I am using midPhase VPS hosting now, but looks like they have stopped selling it and start promoting the VPS.net, which is a Cloud Computing actually. The infrastructure is too new to recommend now.

But I know Lunarpages VPS works very well for Drupal hosting. And its memory is also large enough for even heavy traffic than midPhase can support now./
