Applying for CVS access or taking over the project

I'm using Legal module on a lot of sites. I want to rewrite it to solve many issues. Using nodes to store individual conditions.

I'm not sure whether a clean upgrade path will be possible, but I would try.

The result of that rewrite will probably be a completely different module, however, providing the very same functionality. And since I hate module duplication, I want to ask first:

Is there a chance for me to become a co-maintainer, or alternatively, take over the project?
