Meta tag module - it's showing sensitive data!

monkfish4d - July 4, 2009 - 13:07

Hello,

I'm using the Meta Tag module for a clients site and the description meta tag field is showing sensitive data that I want to turn off.

Under the Meta Tag settings page there's an option ticked called "Use the teaser of the page if the meta description is not set". What is the teaser? I've got a "Description" field for my product node and also a field I added called "One Liner".

Neither of these are being used and it looks like the description meta tag is just a loop of all the node field names and value... hence why it's showing the sensitive data... which is clearly visible in google search results...

Can anyone help me please? Thanks in advance!

Nick

What is a teaser
This is 100% by design.

If your results are showing up in searches, it's because the pages are public, so it's not just about the fact that the meta description shows the first few paragraphs of text from the page ... but something to do with your security choices.

Hi, thanks for the reply...

I have a content type called Page and I want those pages (nodes) to be public (if published is ticked)... My problem is that the pages' description Meta Tag is showing a list of the all the Page node field name and values and therefore showing sensitive data.

My Meta description isn't showing the first few paragraphs of text from the page, the Meta Tag module is auto-generating the meta description and I want to change how it does it.

Thanks, Nick

Managing displayed fields in custom content types

Sounds like you have a CCK custom content type. If that's the case:

Admin -> Content -> Content types
Edit your content type
Click the "Display fields" tab
Turn off the stuff you don't want showing.
