When creating new content or editing it there are linodef guidelines under the Input format Fieldset.
The code for your own link is stated as:
<#8>Your Text</#8>
but should be
<#8>Your Text</#>
When you click the help link you get a page with more documentation, there the code is stated correctly.

Thx for posting! However this is already fixed in dev release. :) I'll release rc3 as soon as possible so there is less confusion.
