How to implement automatic user ranking to create a badges as incentive for contributing to the content?

I am using Drupal CMS for building learning communities. In order to encourage the visitors to contribute more, I would like to implement a kind of Badge system like we see on JavaRanch, StackOverflow or even Yahoo Answers wherein complex rules can be set to promote visitors such as
100 replies=Rookie
100 replies+10 best replies=Expert
500 replies+50 best replies+contributing 5 articles=Guru etc.
I have already tried using various modules like HoF, BestReply, FAQ, UserPoints etc but unable to figure out how to implement this. Can you help?

Did you look at User badges and the User Points Contributed modules? (along with User points).
