need captcha or other ways to protect public shoutbox from spambots

benshell commentedYou can prevent anonymous users (including spambots) from posting shouts without approval from a moderator. This method has worked well on my site. Do you really need something more? I think a captcha might make submitting shouts more work than necessary. That's not to say it would be bad to have as an option, but I don't have time to add this feature. A patch would be welcome, though.

korayal commentedi use the approval system, but i guess there are some ways of spamming about shoutbox forms.
i'm getting the same advertisement spams on my shoutbox which are waiting for approval... there are tens of them on a row... sometimes i have no chance other than deleting them manually from the db myself... maybe there can be some batch delete/confirm tool that has checkbox for every entry.

disterics commentedI think disabling anonymous posts and enabling captchas on user registration, etc is all that is needed to combat spam.
Reopen if you have a good reason why the above will not work.
