need captcha or other ways to protect public shoutbox from spambots

You can prevent anonymous users (including spambots) from posting shouts without approval from a moderator. This method has worked well on my site. Do you really need something more? I think a captcha might make submitting shouts more work than necessary. That's not to say it would be bad to have as an option, but I don't have time to add this feature. A patch would be welcome, though.

i use the approval system, but i guess there are some ways of spamming about shoutbox forms.

i'm getting the same advertisement spams on my shoutbox which are waiting for approval... there are tens of them on a row... sometimes i have no chance other than deleting them manually from the db myself... maybe there can be some batch delete/confirm tool that has checkbox for every entry.

I think disabling anonymous posts and enabling captchas on user registration, etc is all that is needed to combat spam.
Reopen if you have a good reason why the above will not work.
