Content Permissions per field of Content Types too granular

I just wanted a way to adjust access to certain Content Types and specific Forums. Now I'm finding that with this I also have to manually add permissions to every custom field of every content type. This is far too fine grained for what I wanted. Is there a way to turn off requiring specific field permissions while still allowing Content Type permissions?
