Is it possible to create a new Content type for forum, like forum topic but with some additional fields (pollfield for example) for the main forum post?
I tried exporting the forum topic Content type but it wouldn't import into a new one. Is this the way to go? Would this ensure the new type is associated with the forum and displayed appropriately?

Why not just add fields to the forum topic content type?

That is one of the options
That is one of the options and probably the one I'll use, but still I'm curious what happens to forum topic when I import it into a new content type.
