Photo.net Forums

Hey guys, quick question here. I am developing a new site in Drupal and an important part of it will be forums. I am not happy with the stock forums that ship with Drupal and want to develop something new. I am a big fan of the forums at photo.net.. can anyone take a look and see if a similar system can be setup in Drupal? Advice on how this would be accomplished and modules need etc. I am also open to the idea of hiring a developer to create a custom forum if needed..
Thanks!

Before going that route you may want to checkout the http://drupal.org/project/advanced_forum module as well as the work being done on http://drupal.org/project/drubb.
EDIT: I don't see anything in the photo.net forums that couldn't be done with drupal, views, cck, core forum, advanced_forum, and some theming.

Wow, I haven't been to photo.net in ages. ( http://photo.net/photodb/user?user_id=2352246 is me :) Their forums have changed quite a bit since then. One thing I remember that I hated is that new replies didn't bump topics to the top. Have they fixed that?
Anyway, it's not the traditional forum look but, yeah, you should be able to do that. I don't know if AF would be a help or a hinderance... AF really is geared towards the vB/phpBB/myBB look.

I'm looking for folks to help me out by posting in my Coulee Region forums. You don't need to live in the area; there's plenty of general forums. But please, no Drupal support questions. :)
Thanks for the replies guys
Thanks for the replies guys :)
I have been diving further into Drupal and it does certainly appear that I can do everything that photo.net does. Now it is just a matter of time and hard work to get everything setup.. :)
