I'm using Pixture reloaded - and i want a solid light blue box for the first submitted story, as seen on the demo page :

Hey you can do this using sticky stuff. Make this first node as sticky and then write css for this sticky stuff. You can do it very easily.

I thought this was a standard feature, would I have to code this in css ?

Marky a node as "sticky" usually has some custom css from the theme applied-- if you want to change that, then yess, you'll have to alter the css.
