On the module's homepage it is recommended that the 6.x-1.1 or 5.x-1.4 release be used.

"I recommend using the 6.x-1.1 or 5.x-1.4 release, depending on your Drupal install version."

Is there a reason the current versions are not recommended? Or is this something that just needs editing?

I'm not sure. We'll have new versions out soon and those will be recommended.
