I am learning Drupal while developing a prototype of a website for a non-profit. One of the requirements is to move the secondary links, to free up space of a new custom menu. Ideally, I would like to have the secondary links centered just above the copyright statement that currently occupies the footer. I am using the Garland theme on Drupal 6.13 with a bunch of contributed modules.

Although this topic has been covered in other posts, I have not yet come across a comprehensive and general solution. So far, I have looked at three options.

1. Find a theme that displays the secondary links in the right area. Although the easiest to implement, it might restrict what themes I can use.

2. Turn off secondary links in the theme and use the 'Secondary links' block. When positioned in the Footer region, it displayed after the footer defined in Site information. I move the block to the Content area, locating it below other blocks. However, the menu displayed as a vertical unordered list. At the time, I thought this was a show-stopper. However, I have since discovered that the secondary links in the theme are also unordered lists. I found some CSS code that displays list items inline, although the results differ across browsers. I assume I can dig out the CSS used to format the secondary links in themes and apply it to the 'Secondary links' block.

3. Create a new theme based on Garland, modify 'page.tpl.php' and move the display of the secondary links to just before the display of the footer. This works, although I need to figure out what CSS changes are required to center the links and make the font darker. Centering inline lists with CSS seems to be a bit tricky.

Are there other options I should consider? Which options are the best, and under what conditions?
Thanks, Norbert

Hey Norbert!

I'm hoping you figured out a solution by now, but for the others who come across this here is some info.

Options 2 or 3 are both valid. I'd personally just go with 2 since it is simpler than editing the page.tpl.php.

You'll want to check out: http://css.maxdesign.com.au/listamatic/ for a ton of examples on how to do "horizontal lists".

CSS is magical :)
