The French translation included in Pathauto currently is so innacurate it is impossible to work with ; some translations have no meaning and some are even dangerous (for example, "Delete aliases" is translated into the French equivalent of "Create aliases for RSS feeds"!). The bogus translation should be replaced as quickly as possible.

Here is a patch replacing the current translation with the one from the French translation project, which is much better.

I hope it will do.

Title: Incorrect French translation » Improved French translation for Pathauto
Status: Active » Needs review

I'm inclined to commit this - reviews anyone else?

Side question: how do you make Drupal update to the new translation without updating the whole module? I tried to deactivate then reactivate it but that wasn't enough.

Looks good to me. The current French translation is horribly broken...

A few translations are still missing though. I've checked the translation project page for Pathauto and it seems most missing translations have a decent suggestion. It might be worth it to check if those could also be included in the patch.

Please make sure localize.drupal.org also has the latest translations. Anyone with CVS account can feel free to commit these. Plus these also might need an update for 6.x-1.2?

6.x-1.2 should be the same in terms of strings with 6.x-1.1. We tried not to change any of those strings.

I have tried this patch and still have problems, things like 'taxonomy term settings' and the 'automated alias settings' are both incorrectly being translated to "Réglages pour les chemins de nods" and Punctuation settings is being translated to "Paramètres généraux"

How does one correct these translation files, do you have to go through the source code line by line and create a msgid msgstr pair for each term you want to translate? or is there some sort of tool to help do it?

Marked #698764: Issues with french translation as a duplicate of this issue.

@AlpesInfo: You have to re-import the translated strings (ie., the updated PO-file). I can't remember where it's hidden off the top of my head, and I do not have the time to find it right now. :/

The infrastructure behind Drupal.org is moving towards using http://localize.drupal.org/ (l.d.o) to handle and centralise translations and translating (for all of Drupal, including contributed modules and themes), so it would by far be preferable if you would include your translations at http://localize.drupal.org/languages/fr instead of dealing with it in this issue. Thank you. :)
