Issue Summary
The idea of having MAR hit forums in a container was brought up in another issue. Currently there are two choices: mark all forums read or mark an individual forum read. This could be expanded to:
- Mark all forums read
- Mark a container including all contained forums read
- Mark forum including all subforums read
- Mark a single forum read
This would need some UI adjustments to make it clear what was going to happen so folks didn't mark more read than they meant to. Possibly a little jquery popup thingy.
I don't really have an itch to work on this any time soon. Mostly wanted to get the idea recorded. I'd be interested in a patch, though, if someone wants to take it up.

Moving to 3.x

Putting back under consideration for 2.x since I could use this on my site.
Could possibly spin this off into a submodule or possibly an independent project to make it more flexible and useful outside of the forum. Other uses include marking a group read, marking all subscribed groups read, marking the entire site read...

I was just about to post a new topic when I found this [thank you search :)]. I was going to inquire about pulling the mark as read functionality out of AF into its own sub-module. There are so many requests across the board for this functionality and I think you've accomplished the task. If it was pulled out of AF then others could enjoy it as well.
I won't proclaim to know how to do this but I would be happy to offer what support (testing, documentation, etc.) that I can.

Might be worth linking this up to VBO: http://drupal.org/node/515418#comment-3557264

Moving this to D7.

Not a trivial task and I don't want to go there for now.

I was just moving it because it's not going to happen in D6. Not saying _you_ have to do it. :)
