What happens with ASIN field data when upgrading to D6?

Description

Hi,

when upgrading D5 to D6, CCK does neither display nor allow to edit the CCK fields generated by the ASIN module since there is no "compatible" asin widget:

This content type has inactive fields. Inactive fields are not included in lists of available fields until their modules are enabled.
ASIN (field_asin) is an inactive Amazon item field that uses a asin widget.

So even if one would be willing to delete the data collected in CCK ASIN field after upgrading to Drupal 6, CCK wouldn't allow it. Since there is no D6 port for this module, ther is and there will be nothing to "enable".

Since at the moment even for the Amazontools module itself neither exists a D6 port nor a working migration path to the new "Amazon" module (cf. 231612), the question arises what we should do with this CCK field when upgrading to D6.

Would the recommended action be to delete the field (and loose all data in it) before upgrading to D6, or should there be sometimes in the future a mechanism for the "Amazon" modul to use (i.e. display and modify) this field?

Thanks & greetings, -asb

See my latest reply on #231612: Upgrade path for Amazon associate tools module?: I think I may have figured out where your use of my script was going wrong.
